Moda Mindanao Season 11

Fashion, Culture and Colors - these are the things that these young designers try to show in this year's Moda Mindanao Season 11. 

[August 21, 2016] - Now, on its new home - SM Lanang Premier, The region’s longest-running fashion design competition celebrates Mindanaoan artistry and sets the runway ablaze with their very own collection. 

Now on its 11th year, Moda Mindanao is back with a new format and perspective but retains the same global aspiration as it had in the previous years. Redefined as a ‘Young Fashion Designers Competition,’ it showcases contemporary Mindanaoan fashion and paves the way for young and most promising local designers to get recognized in the national and global fashion scene.

For this year's event, ten local designers are set to showcase their creations in a runway show. Vying for Prêt-à-porter and Evening Wear categories, and they are expected to highlight fabrics, patterns and materials that reflect the unique Mindanaoan heritage with a fashion-forward sensibility.

This year's participants are Jay-R Gamboa Flores of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat together with  Aloha Lelani Begin of Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, Arwin Mark Meriales from Davao Occidental, and Alexis Nickole Rule, Aries Buenvenida, Bianca Sabellano, Jonas Andrew Amora, Kian Plaza Deocariza, Mimi Tandingan and Neil Patrick Jimlani of Davao City.

Judging the participating designers are International Accessories designer Ken Samudio, L'Officiel Manila Managing Editor Nana Caragay, Project Runway Philippines Season 4 1st runner-up Jared Servano, designer Bobby Castillo of Chardin, Elite restaurateur Rosanna Dizon-Loseo and rising fashion stylist and entrepreneur Sean Go

Behind this year’s Moda Mindanao is a working team of emerging millennial designers: Jun ArtajoWilson Niñofranco Limon and Frances Marie Tendencia as creative directors and Grand Ravacio as fashion director.


Aside from the ten young designers, Moda Mindanao Season 11 also features young international accessories designer Ken Samudio, whose pieces have been featured in editorials of many notable fashion publications. 

Ken Samudio is actually the first Filipino designer selected by Vogue Italia as one of its Talents for Accessories in 2014 and featured in its 50th Anniversary issue.

After a delightful runway show and showcasing each contestant's wonderful creation, JAY-R Gamboa Flores, the fashion designer from Isulan emerged as this year’s champion in the 11th season of Moda Mindanao, and took home the 3 major awards: the Philippine Daily INquirer 2BU Editor's Pick, as well as to the Prêt-à-porter (Ready-to-wear) and Evening Gown categories.
