House of Laurel Trunk Show - Davao

HOUSE OF LAUREL TRUNK SHOW - Davao | MAGPIE MEMPHIS CRUISE COLLECTION '16-'17

It was really a privilege for me to meet Mr. Rajo Laurel and be one of the few to have a first glimpse of his new collection during his Trunk Show here in Davao that took place in Dusit Thani Residences Showroom. Davao is the first city they visited just a week after their show in London for the Paris Fashion Week 2016. So it was really an amazing feeling to witness it myself.

Few members of the Davao Bloggers Society were invited, namely Jeffrey Mondia, Roxanne Lacap, Claudine Chua and myself, thanks to Ria Jose and to the people behind this Trunk Show.

With Mr. Rajo Laurel
Mr. Rajo Laurel is one of the most prominent and highly regarded fashion designer in the Philippines because of his exquisite designs and passion for fashion.

What is Rajo's Inspiration for this collection?

Well, it is inspired by the 1980’s “once-hated” design movement called Memphis, as Rajo Laurel re-imagining his teenage years, he came up with a collection that features dizzying graphics and abstract shapes with a bold style and structured silhouettes in his Cruise 2016 Collection of House of Laurel dubbed Magpie Memphis. It really captures your attention because of its loud and vibrant colors.

THE MAGPIE MEMPHIS

Launched July 2016, The Magpie Memphis collection is a big leap from the clean, minimalist vibes of The Monast spring/summer 2016 collection. The neutral color palette that reflects the mood of The Monast transitioned to bright colors and exuberant prints of Magpie Memphis. The calm vibe has become busy. Memphis. The calm vibe has become busy. Yet, both collections share common denominators with their well-balanced scale and genre.

Here's a sneak peek of what was shown in the collection during the Trunk Show in Davao.

Lucky enough to be one of the first few to view the collection, we were even given the chance to try and wear some of the items in the Magpie Memphis Collection.

Thank you very much Mr. Rajo Laurel for this experience and for this simple gift that you gave us. I'm looking forward to see more awesome collection from you.
